     GOODS OF THE WOODS began simply in the woods of Northern California in 1936 with one product, magical color cones, that were made from pine cones that fall to the ground from pine trees. We now make many additional products but the common theme remains the use of natural items to bring pleasure to those who use wood burning fireplaces and campfires. Some things have changed over the years, including relocation to Tennessee in 1991 but the thing that has remained constant is the pure simple enjoyment of making products that people buy because they make their homes more enjoyable. Let me discuss in some detail each of the products we offer.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Fatwood is the resin rich pine heartwood that isfound in decaying pine stumps in southern pine forests. Some people call it by other names such as lighter, heartwood and kindling but these are often not true fatwood. Fatwood comes only from pine trees and it is the resin rich center of the pine tree stump that is true fatwood.Wood from other softwood or hardwood trees is not fatwood.Fatwood is cut from the old pine stumps that are found in the woods after the trees were tapped for resin and then cut for lumber long ago. The tapping operation resulted in resin rich sections of the stump that remained when the other portions decomposed.Simply place one or two sticks among your stacked logs and light them. The fatwood is so rich in resin that one match easily lights a piece and the burning sticks will start your fire in a natural way. They givea delightful aroma to the hearth.Use tostart wood fires in fireplaces,firepits and campfires. Because the product is completely natural they can be used to start charcoal cooking fire
